PRINCIPLES OF CLINICAL
PRACTICE
Activity Therapy services are available to all clients, and services are goal oriented and
directed toward rehabilitation, habilitation, amelioration, and
modification of specific physical, emotional, mental, and social
behaviors.
Members
of the Service function are part of an interdisciplinary clinical team.
There
is an established method for assessing the needs, interests, competencies,
and capabilities of all clients.
As
part of the clinical interdisciplinary team, the therapist determines
appropriate discipline specific goals and interventions.
As
part of the clinical interdisciplinary team, the therapist assists in the
development of a comprehensive individualized plan of care for each client
based on complete and relevant diagnostic / assessment data.
Activity
Therapy Service staff systematically record an individual’s progress and
his / her reaction to specific interventions.
When
providing services, the Activity Therapy Service staff takes into
consideration the cultural, economic, social, educational backgrounds of
the clients.
The
Activity Therapy Service provides each client the opportunity to
participate in activities which utilize physical behaviors (sensory-motor
domain), mental behavior (cognitive domain), and emotional behaviors
(affective domain).
The Activity Therapy Service staff will provide regularly scheduled
activities and special events during the day, evening, weekend, and holidays.
The
Activity Therapy Service will provide opportunities to explore and develop
leisure skills that have carryover values at home and in the
community.
The
Activity Therapy Service will make provisions for each client to
participate at his / her optimal level of functioning and to progress at
his / her own speed.
The
Activity Therapy Service will have a performance evaluation component that
systematically measures and assesses the performance of the Service staff
and programs.
